Probably not, but then again, you may be in Yellowstone or near the Shanay-Timpishka of Peru!* Water temperature has lots of effects beyond just whether you’re scalded or freezing when you dip your hand in, including controlling the maximum amount of dissolved oxygen, cueing different fish to spawn at different times of the year, regulating the movement of macroscopic invertebrates; the list goes on and on.
The water temperature probe is a replacement for any 1 kΩ RTD probe, as is shipped with the Water Temperature Pack. Note: water temperature probe and module board must be re-calibrated when the probe is replaced.
*Please don’t place a FieldKit in a National Park without permission from the National Parks Service.
